More than 5,400 incidents of cyber attacks on Vietnamese systems in the first 5 months of the year

Assessing the situation of building e-Government associated with ensuring information safety and network security, the Ministry of Information and Communications, the standing body of the National Committee on Digital Transformation, said that in May 2022, the work inspection, supervision, assurance of safety and network security for information systems serving the e-Government continue to be promoted.

According to statistics, in May, the National Cyber ​​Security Monitoring Center (NCSC) under the Department of Information Security, the Ministry of Information and Communications has recorded, warned and instructed to handle 847 cyber attacks that cause disruptions. hacking into information systems in Vietnam; decreased by 9.7% compared to April. In which, there were 161 phishing attacks (Phishing), 226 attacks to change the interface (Deface) and 460 attacks to install malicious code (Malware).

Data from the Ministry of Information and Communications shows that, in the first 5 months of this year, there were 5,463 cyber attacks causing problems on information systems in Vietnam, including 930 Phishing attacks, 776 Deface attacks and 3,757 Malware attacks.

Notably, May continued to record a decrease in the number of cyberattack incidents on systems in Vietnam compared to the previous month. Previously, in April, the Ministry of Information and Communications recorded, warned and guided to handle 938 cyber attacks that caused problems to information systems in Vietnam; down 9.37% compared to March 2022.

According to experts from the Information Security Department under the Ministry of Information and Communications, the reason for the decrease in the number of cyber attacks compared to the previous month is that the socio-economic situation is stable, all types of economic activities are reopened. Just like before the Covid-19 epidemic, the solutions to manage and promote the economy of the Party, the Government and ministries and local agencies have been effective.

Accordingly, increasing vigilance and ensuring network information safety as well as security and social order have been paid more attention. Therefore, objects also face more difficulties in network attacks, distribution, infection of malicious code, fraud to appropriate and destroy information of users and organizations.

To ensure information security for information systems and for Vietnam’s cyberspace, the Ministry of Information and Communications will continue to strengthen supervision and proactively scan; evaluate, make statistics and promote propaganda and warnings on the mass media so that users know and avoid the risks of cyber attacks. At the same time, continue to widely warn and urge the review of vulnerabilities and signs of network attacks.
