Fire in office building in South Korea, 7 people died

A fire broke out at an office building in the city of Daegu, eastern South Korea, killing 7 people and injuring 46 others.

Daegu Fire Department official Shin Ju-han said dozens of firefighters and support vehicles were deployed to the scene to put out the fire, after the fire broke out at around 10:55 am today (8:55 am Hanoi time). Noi) on the second floor of a 7-storey office building in the busy commercial district of Beomeo-dong.

The fire was completely extinguished after about 20 minutes and dozens of people were evacuated from the building. Seven people were confirmed dead and 35 people were hospitalized with injuries, of which nine were in critical condition. No one is trapped in the building.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire. Daegu police have not confirmed whether this is an intentional act of arson.

Daegu is Korea’s fourth largest city with more than 2.6 million inhabitants. This place was once the site of one of the worst arson attacks in Korean history in 2003, 192 people died after a 56-year-old man set fire on the subway.
