Many users have the need for air conditioning maintenance before the hot season.

“Earlier this week, I received a call from a person claiming to be from Casper – the brand of air conditioners that I am using. They said the product is about to expire in warranty, has a three-year extension program and only takes 250,000 VND, get 6 more free cleaning sessions,” said Mr. Le Van Chung (Trung Van, Hanoi).

Because he saw that the phone number was not beautiful, unlike the switchboard number, he was suspicious and refused because there was no real need. Meanwhile, Mr. Bach Tung (Cau Giay, Hanoi) also received a similar call and agreed because it was time to maintain the equipment before the heat wave. “They read the exact model name of the Daikin brand I’m using, the correct place to install the machine and the warranty period, so I trust it,” he said.

A day later, Mr. Tung was delivered a package with warranty card and gift from the company, and needed to pay a renewal fee of 250,000 VND before receiving it.

“There’s only one Daikin remote inside, but the quality is poor, and the warranty card is printed and unusable. Called the other number but couldn’t be contacted, I contacted the company’s switchboard number. I just found out that the manufacturer doesn’t have any such program, especially never arbitrarily collects more money from customers,” Tung said.

According to Mr. Le Tuan, in charge of the air conditioning industry at an electronics supermarket, the trick of calling to offer to extend the warranty of household appliances is not new, appearing two years ago.

“After the pandemic, again in the peak month when it is necessary to clean the air conditioner before the summer, this scam method has blossomed again and caught many people off guard,” he said, and confirmed that there is currently no brand of air conditioner. implement such a program. “The gift drivers like Mr. Tung receive are actually fakes, priced at only 20,000-30,000 VND in electronics stores.”

According to Mr. Minh Tien, an expert on household electrical appliances, the reason this trick works is because the information provided is quite accurate. “They have a full phone number, address, brand name, and model that users have purchased for advice, so some people easily fall into the trap,” Tien commented and said that the status of buying and selling customer information is not very good. quite common in Vietnam.

Most air conditioner manufacturers now distribute products through a system of stores and agents because they need a contractor to install. Mr. Tien said that sales data such as name, phone number, address … are fully saved by the store, and the company, if available, usually only requires phone number data to send a warranty activation message. product.

In the wake of warranty extension scam calls, some brands have had to post warnings. Earlier this week, Casper Vietnam advised users to only listen to calls from the official switchboard number, read information on its website. Previously, Daikin and Panasonic also wrote about this situation on their website and fanpage.

In addition to air conditioners, experts said the same trick is also applied to many other household appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines, water heaters… “Depending on the stage, scammers will choose products. suitable, such as cleaning the air conditioner in the summer, to make it easier to cheat,” Tien said.
