In an announcement on June 7 at the UP.Summit traffic technology conference in Bentonville, Arkansas, USA, Volocopter said that during the flight, VoloConnect conducted some basic flight maneuvers, lasting 2 minutes and 14 seconds. The prototype used by the company has all the aerodynamics and performance characteristics of a future commercial product.
Since then, VoloConnect has undergone several other short flights in the early stages of testing. This phase will evaluate the low and high speed performance of the flying taxi, its ability to switch between straight and side flight, and how to correct engine failures in flight. Currently, VoloConnect reaches a maximum speed of 64 km/h when flying forward and a horizontal cruising speed of 45 km/h.
VoloConnect is equipped with 6 rotors for vertical take-off and landing along with 2 electric fans operating with fixed wings to create lift to help the vehicle fly forward. This taxi model can carry 4 passengers with a maximum speed of 250 km/h, a cruising speed of 180 km/h and a maximum range of 100 km.
According to the plan, the vehicle will go into operation in 2026. In addition to VoloConnect, VoloCity’s short-haul electric flying taxi model has carried public passengers several times.
