No one knows how long you will live, but there are things you can do to help prolong your life, such as eating a healthy diet and living an active, comfortable lifestyle.

In fact, people living in the Green Zone, which has a life expectancy rate higher than the average human life expectancy and the highest percentage of people over 100 years old in the world like people in Okinawa (Japan); Sardinia (Italy); Nicoya (Costa Rica); Ikaria (Greece) and Loma Linda (California, USA).

Nutritionist Sarah Schlichter told Eatthis, although genetic factors can contribute to longevity, it is largely due to their eating and living habits. Here are some of the best breakfast habits that Green Zone people have been implementing.

Don’t eat anything when you’re full

Sometimes it’s hard to stop eating your favorite foods or treats, even when you feel full. But for those who live long, this is not a good thing, because according to a survey of people living in the Green Zone, they rarely continue to eat if their stomach is full.

“They adhere to the rule of not eating more than 80 percent of the time. Of course, to do this, the people with the longest life expectancy in the world often eat regularly and do not let themselves be too hungry,” added expert Schlichter.

Cherish breakfast

People living in the Green Zone always remember: Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Meanwhile, they eat less in the late afternoon or early evening.

For people with a long life, breakfast is usually low-fat, high-fiber foods that keep you full for a long time such as eggs, yogurt, oatmeal, chia seeds, fresh cheese…

Eat a lot of vegetables

Plant-based diets are growing in popularity. Accordingly, this diet consists mostly or completely of plants, and has many breakfast options such as pancakes, vegetables, sweet potatoes, nuts, beans …

That doesn’t mean you have to be completely vegetarian, as the world’s oldest people also eat meat and dairy, but to a much lesser extent than in the US.

“The foundation of the Green Zone diet is eating lots of fruits, vegetables, nuts, beans,” says Shlichter. They still eat meat, but about once a week, meanwhile, people here encourage eating fish every day.”

Don’t eat a lot of sugar

It can be difficult to eliminate sugar completely, as sugar is found in many foods, including fruit. But if you want to live like the world’s oldest people, it’s important not to indulge in too many sugary snacks.

Long-lived people eat sugar, but not often. They eat sugar on purpose, not out of habit.

Eat with enjoyment, do not abstain from any food

The majority of residents in the Green Zones of the world follow a very healthy diet, but are not forced to follow a certain dietary pattern or restrict themselves from eating what they really want. Instead, they enjoy food in moderation, instead of forbidding themselves to eat a certain type of food.

“In the Green Zone, they don’t have to worry about counting calories or reading food labels. They listen to their bodies,” explains Schlichter.

Therefore, you should use the ingredients you like in a reasonable way and enjoy a comfortable breakfast.
