Realizing this is unreasonable, the Ministry of Education and Training will reduce the priority score for university admission

Currently, in enrollment, candidates are divided into 4 areas: area 1 (candidates get the highest priority score of 0.75 points); area 2 (candidates get 0.25 points); rural area 2 (candidates get 0.5 points); area 3 (candidates are not allowed to add regional priority points). In addition, candidates are also given priority points according to the object. In which, subject group 1 is added 2 points; Priority group 2 gets 1 point. Candidates in area 1 mostly get priority points from group 1. Thus, these candidates can get a maximum of 2.75 points when applying for university admission.

According to the Ministry of Education and Training, statistical data shows that, for the spectrum of high school graduation exam scores over the years (2020 – 2021), when priority points have not been added, candidates who get high scores (about 27-28 points or more). up), candidates in area 3 (candidates do not receive priority points). But after adding priority points, the score chart has an inversion. The subjects with priority points are dominant, while the group of candidates from area 3 becomes the minority.

In particular, candidates in area 1 outperformed the rest of the regions. Although the number of candidates in Region 1 is not much, the leader of the Ministry of Education and Training thinks that this is not reasonable in the policy of ensuring fairness when enrolling. Because the score spectrum shows, the distance between candidates in area 3 and area 1 after adding priority points is up to 0.5 points. This irrationality is what leads to some extreme situations, like the benchmark 30.

Another data that the Ministry of Education and Training refers to to adjust the regulations on priority points is the analysis of the results of students of Hanoi University of Science and Technology after 1 year of matriculation. According to Deputy Minister Hoang Minh Son, in principle, after 1 year of study, the learning conditions of the students are the same, the learning results will be balanced again. Students in less developed areas, with lower test scores, will get ahead and catch up with students in developed areas.

But in fact, after 1 year, students with low test scores (while their admission scores are higher due to the addition of regional priority points) still have lower academic scores at university than students with higher test scores.

With these statistics, Deputy Minister Hoang Minh Son said that it is expected that from the good score (test score), the candidate’s priority score will be adjusted in a linear downward direction (the ministry is expected from the score of 23.5 point/combination or more).
