Musician Hong Dang dies

HanoiMusician Hong Dang – who composed the songs “Milk Flower”, “The sea sings this afternoon” – died at the age of 86 from old age disease, on the morning of March 21.

Le Anh Thuy – the musician’s wife – said she died at 5:57 am at the Viet Xo Friendship Hospital. Since early March, his health has deteriorated and he eats little. The musician was hospitalized for more than a week and suffered several heart attacks.

Anh Thuy said: “He was old, suffering from heart failure and many background illnesses. At the time of his death, he was exhausted. My family and I are in touch with musicians associations and mass organizations to deal with the aftermath. .for you”.

In October 2021, the musician won the Bui Xuan Phai Grand Prize for his composition on Hanoi but can’t come to receive because of old age and weakness.

Musician Hong Dang Born in 1936 in Nghe An, nephew of revolutionary Phan Dang Luu. In the 1950s, when he was a student, he composed songs The sun returns to the Northwest, Thanking Uncle Ho, Student life… He was one of the first students of the Composition Department, Vietnam Music School (now Vietnam National Academy of Music).

He composed about 700 works, including many famous soundtracks such as: flower milk – movie Hanoi bird’s nest season, float –film Singing life, The sea sings this afternoon – in many films about the sea, Nostalgic sea night – film Sea salt grains, The sea and the girl I don’t know – movie Little Star, green room – movie Sky

During more than 60 years living in Hanoi, he created many works about this place such as: opera Red River of a thousand years (played by the script Duong Viet A) performed in 1964 by Hanoi Dance and Dance Troupe, the song Red River People, Hanoi Duyen, Singing in the city fortress, Milk flower– soundtrack Hanoi bird’s nest season, Night memories, Childhood city memories…

He released many albums like Blue sky (1978), The sea is singing this afternoon (1985), Song Hong Dang (1994), Milk flower – Floating (1996), Floating in the sea (2008)… Besides composing, he teaches, writes books, newspapers… He was Deputy Secretary General of the Vietnam Musicians Association for the fourth and fifth terms, member of the Vietnam Journalists Association and first musician. accepted into the Vietnam Cinema Association.

In 2001, he received the State Prize for Literature and Arts for his work: song The sea sings this afternoon, Milk flowers, May gifts, Childhood city memories and the chorus Burn fire.
