The two sides are intensifying efforts to reach a necessary agreement for the conflict in Ukraine.

Direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in Turkey ended a few days ago with many supposedly positive signals, but no agreement has yet been signed. Kiev is still proposing a summit between the two leaders, but the Russian side believes that more issues need to be resolved related to the draft treaty. Currently, Ukraine is proposing a neutral position in exchange for security guarantees, while Russia is committed to reducing the scale of military activities in the country.

During a visit to India on April 1, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov confirmed that some progress had been made at peace talks with Ukraine and that Moscow was preparing to respond to Kiev’s proposals. According to Lavrov, negotiations with Ukraine need to be maintained and Kiev has shown a clear understanding of the importance of neutrality.

Meanwhile, Russia is accusing the Ukrainian side of attacking an oil depot in Russia’s Belgorod region and saying that this does not help create a positive atmosphere for maintaining negotiations with Kiev.

Turkey promotes negotiations

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan spoke by phone with his Russian and Ukrainian counterparts to discuss the situation and promote peace talks between the two sides. The phone calls took place on the same day that Russia and Ukraine continued to negotiate online.

During the phone calls, President Erdogan discussed talks between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul this week. The Turkish leader affirmed that the talks were taking place in a “positive and constructive” way, which had raised hopes for peace. However, no agreement has been signed yet.
