Tour guide Alexandra Olivieri filmed a mother giraffe trying to protect her baby’s carcass in the Greater Kruger National Park, South Africa, Latest Sightings reported on April 5. “We didn’t expect to see female giraffes fighting so fiercely with hyenas to chase them away from their young, most likely just born. I’ve been a guide for 10 years and this is definitely one of the most memorable scenes,” Olivieri shared.

In the video, the mother giraffe hangs around the dead baby. Every time the hyena approached, the giraffe quickly ran to chase it. It prevents hyenas from eating their cubs with their powerful growls and stomps.

“The next morning, we went back to see what had happened at night. When we arrived, the hyenas were eating the baby giraffe. Moments later, a male lion appeared and stole it. prey, then deal with it,” Olivieri recounted.

“If it weren’t for the vultures, we wouldn’t have been able to witness the extraordinary sight. It’s important that you maintain your sensitivity to the scene that’s unfolding before you. Give the animals space, so they can move on. move and you are just an observer, not interfering or influencing what is being witnessed,” she added.

With its famous long neck, the giraffe (Giraffa) is the tallest land animal in the world, adults can grow up to 5.5 m.
