But few people know that in Xinjiang there is also a stream. Here the four seasons of water flow with beautiful swans that cannot be described.

When it is winter, snow covers everywhere, making China’s nature become more pristine. If you want to find a quiet place to watch the snow fall. Visit the Swan Spring in the Yili region, Xinjiang. Come here to experience the feeling of living in the fairyland. The blue stream surface sparkled like ice. White snow on the shore. But the truth is that photographers only record the fairy scene there with their lenses. They were also amazed to see this natural masterpiece.

Swan Stream is located in the middle of the Ili River valley, known as the scenic “Yangtze River beyond the Great Wall”. The spring never freezes thanks to the converging underground hot springs, which provide moisture and bring life to the Yili valley. A large area of water as vast as a lake, misty smoke makes the swans become even more mysterious.
Ever since then, this stream has become the “kingdom of refuge” of the giant swans every cold day. From the beginning of winter (October) to the end of spring (April next year), hundreds of swans will come here to “relax”. Since then, the stream has become an attractive new tourist destination in Xinjiang.
90% of the swans in this hot spring are unique large swans. With prominent features is a black or orange beak and black – blue around the eyes. They possess a haughty beauty and do not like to be disturbed. They often swim slowly in the middle of the river, in pairs or hiding under the shade of snowy trees to preen and exchange intimate gestures.
From “fish pond” to swan sanctuary
Back in time long ago in Yili there were only rivers and swamps, no lakes and no swans. In the 1980s, villagers of Xiaheleke Tamu, Yining County developed aquaculture along the Ili River and expanded large ponds and reservoirs of fish, gradually attracting swans to feed.
In the winter of 1993, a villager named Han Xinlin found several “big birds” in a wetland pond not far from his house. Han had never seen such large birds before, they had white plumage and very loud calls. After the local forestry officials came to check, they discovered it was a swan – a nationally protected animal in China.

Han Xinlin happily feeds the swans fish and protects them. The swans stayed until March of the following year before leaving. Then every winter, they come back in more and more numbers. The initial few dozen have grown into hundreds. The villagers nearby loved the swans. They looked at them and left the fish ponds and hot springs to those beautiful animals.
From a bleak fish farming area, this place has become a unique nature reserve. In 2011, the Government established the Swan Habitat Protection Area. The landscape is mainly hot springs. Millions of yuan have been invested. From plants, additional monitoring equipment. To the security fence. Keepers and other structures to keep the swans safe.

The dreamy fantasy makes Swan Spring a dream destination for photographers and tourists alike.
Visitors can visit the swan stream. But the reserve staff will warn them not to feed them arbitrarily. Wang Jianhua, deputy director of the Nghining Forestry and Grassland Administration, explained:
“Conservation of swans requires science. Management cannot be turned into maintenance. Otherwise it will undermine the swan’s wild nature. As well as its ability to survive in the wild.”
Swan Stream Reserve is 136 km long. With natural water from the hot waterfall does not freeze in winter. Preserve the wild and fresh features for rare swans.
