The student choked on the bottle cap, choking and couldn’t say anything, the teacher had an amazing treatment
A dramatic clip that is causing a stir on social media is confirmed to take place in New Jersey with a dangerous situation that makes many parents’ hearts flutter.
The Daily Mail reported that the incident was recorded by a surveillance camera at East Orange Community Charter School. The clip shows 9-year-old Robert Stoner trying to open a bottle to drink water in class on April 6.
When the cap of the bottle could not be twisted, this 3rd grade male student tried to use his mouth to open the cap, but the accident happened. “I opened it with my teeth, made the water come out and pushed the bottle cap down my throat“, said Robert.
Little Robert got the bottle cap stuck in his throat, so he quickly ran to the sink to spit it out
When he choked, Robert got up from his seat and quickly ran to the sink at the back of the classroom to try and get the cap out of his throat, but couldn’t. The boy decided to run to his teacher for help.
The 9-year-old boy recounted that dangerous moment: “I went to the sink trying to spit the lid out but I couldn’t so I ran to my teacher very quickly.“.
The clip shows Robert rushing towards the teacher’s desk and clutching his throat with a bewildered, scared face. JaNeice Jenkins, the boy’s teacher, recounted the incident: “The boy pointed to his throat and looked confused. Robert couldn’t speak so I turned him around and did Heimlich movements“.

The Heimlich Maneuver is the first aid method used in emergencies due to choking. The Heimlich consists of a series of abdominal thrusts under the diaphragm and back patting. This technique is recommended for a person who is choking on food, a foreign body, or anything that is obstructing the airway. Seconds later, the bottle cap popped out of Robert’s mouth, allowing him to breathe normally.
“Once the boy was safe, I took my student to see the nurse for a thorough checkup again. Only then did I breathe a sigh of relief. This is my first time doing the Heimlich maneuver. I’m so glad I did, what a blessing“, the female teacher shared.
Ms. Jenkins has worked at East Orange Community Charter School for the past 5 years. She had been trained in lifesaving techniques, not only as a teacher, but also as an animation coach. So when Robert began to choke, she knew what to do.

After the incident, Jenkins was hailed as a heroine when helping students overcome dangerous situations. Student Robert is a fan of superheroes, so for him, Ms. Jenkins is now his favorite hero.
Tracey Watkins, Principal of the school said: “This situation can lead to a tragic outcome. We are grateful and feel proud of Ms. Jenkins. Instead of panicking and bewildered, she calmly recalled the skills she had learned and then mastered it to save a life.“.
According to local media, the school and the city of East Orange plan to acknowledge Ms Jenkins’ lifesaving action in the coming days.
