Sweet potatoes help you live longer?

Vegetables that are mainly sweet potato and green and yellow leafy vegetables as well as foods made from soybeans and medicinal plants are often included in the diet of the Japanese living in the Okinawa Islands, where many long-lived people are concentrated.

The results of a meta-analysis study by the US National Library of Medicine that looked at the effects of these healthy diets showed that sweet potatoes are the best of all vegetables.

Sweet potatoes contain a lot of beneficial compounds that help protect and improve health such as removing bad cholesterol, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, improving blood sugar, anti-constipation…

Dr. BS. Truong Hong Son, Director of the Vietnam Institute of Applied Medicine, said that in order to prolong life, we need a healthy diet. With protein, we should focus more on white meats, fish and eggs; should limit red meat (goat, pork, beef). In terms of fats, we choose plant-based fats like avocados, and animal-based fats like fish fats.

Dr. Son should pay attention to green vegetables and ripe fruits. A day you should eat about 400g of green vegetables. Outside sweet potatoyou also have a lot of other foods to choose from such as foods with high trace mineral content (iron, zinc…), low GI (glycemic index)…
