Riots caused by far-right marches in Sweden

Unrest erupted in Landskrona, southern Sweden and elsewhere, after an anti-Muslim far-right group planned a march.

The Danish far-right party Stram Kurs this week announced a plan to burn the Koran during rallies in Sweden, sparking clashes in several Swedish cities since the evening of April 15 between supporters and opponents of the plan. this plan. Sweden and Denmark are neighbors in Northern Europe.

Stram Kurs was originally planning to hold a march in the town of Landskrona on April 16, but officials asked them to move the location to the city of Malmo, 45 kilometers away, as a precaution. However, the police Switzerland said many scuffles still broke out in Landskrona yesterday.

Earlier, Kim Hild, a police spokesman in southern Sweden, said authorities had not revoked Stram Kurs’ permit to march because it had not broken the rules.

Unrest also took place in the city of Orebro in central Sweden on the evening of April 16, when 12 policemen were injured and four official vehicles were set on fire. Protesters threw rocks and other objects at police officers wearing riot gear.

Clashes were also recorded in the capital Stockholm and the cities of Linkoping and Norrkoping since midweek. These are all places where Stram Kurs has organized or is about to hold marches.

Paludan, a Danish lawyer with Swedish citizenship, founded the Stram Kurs party in 2017, pursuing an anti-immigrant and anti-Islam agenda. The organization’s website describes it as “the most patriotic political party in Denmark”.
