In 1954, after the Geneva Agreement was signed, the Ben Hai River of Quang Tri province was selected as the temporary boundary between the two regions.

With a long-term plot to divide our country, the US imperialists sent troops to invade the South, turning the South into a new colony and military base to attack the socialist North.

Faced with that situation, the army and people of Quang Tri and the armed forces fought bravely, smashing the plot to attack the North of the US imperialists and their henchmen. On May 1, 1972, Quang Tri became the first province of the South to be liberated.

Falling in Quang Tri, America – the puppets frantically gathered huge army forces to counterattack and recapture Quang Tri town. Quang Tri’s army and people immediately entered the heroic fight to protect the liberated area.

During the 81 days and nights of the summer of 1972, fighting to protect the Citadel and Quang Tri town, many soldiers heroically sacrificed their lives, their blood and bones mixed with the Thach Han river, and remained in the Quang Tri Citadel. .

The victory of the campaign to liberate Quang Tri and the 81-day fight to protect the Citadel changed the situation, forcing the US imperialists to resume negotiations and come to the conclusion of the Paris Agreement on ending the war in Vietnam. Vietnam, contributing to creating a premise for our army and people to open the historic Ho Chi Minh campaign, making a great victory in the Spring of 1975.

Coming out of the arduous and fierce war, Quang Tri had to bear very heavy consequences: over 95% of the villages were destroyed. From an economy that went up from a negative figure after the war, and was fragmented and backward when the province was first re-established, now there has been a fairly comprehensive development with breakthroughs, on the basis of potentials and strengths. own has.

From the development of agriculture, industry, trade and services, to the development of renewable energy, there have been important steps in the right direction; The province’s investment environment has been increasingly improved, attracting many large domestic and foreign investment projects to Quang Tri.

Economic growth remained at a good level for many consecutive years, the economic scale was raised, the economic structure shifted in the right direction; per capita income increases year by year.
