Russia accused Ukraine’s air force of shelling its territory, intercepting two enemy planes

According to Russian news agencies such as RIA Novosti and TASS, the Russian air defense is said to have successfully prevented the Ukrainian plane from entering the territory of the Bryansk region.

In the process, two shells hit the village of Zhecha in the Bryansk region. One shell damaged “the technical buildings of an oil depot”. The second shell damages the surrounding area.

“This morning, the Russian air defense system detected a plane of the Ukrainian armed forces. While preventing the Ukrainian plane from entering Russian territory, two shells hit the village of Zhecha, Starodubsk district. Currently, operational services are working on site. Bryansk province is about 160 km from the border with Ukraine. The incident came a day after a Russian checkpoint in the Kursk region near the Ukrainian border was shelled on Friday, May 29.

The governor of the Kursk region of Russia, Roman Starovoit, said in a statement on Telegram that shells were fired at the checkpoint in the village of Krupets, near the Ukrainian city of Sumy, at around 8 a.m. local time, according to The Times. Week

Mr. Starovoit said that border guards and the Russian army “held” positions and returned fire. The incident also caused no casualties.

The recent attack on Russia’s border areas is seen as the latest sign that the conflict between Russia and its neighbor is spreading beyond Ukraine’s borders.

The shelling of the Bryansk region on April 30 is not the first time Russia’s border with Ukraine has been attacked. Russian officials have accused Ukraine of shelling Russian checkpoints and targets across the border, including in the Kursk region.
