Children make a hospital home…

Go to the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion in the late afternoon, when children across the country are on a big national holiday, traveling with their families to distant tourist destinations or going back home to visit relatives. loved ones, here the children still have to fight against the evil disease called blood cancer.

Children with needles in their hands are still playing carefree, their eyes are clear and innocent, and their innocent voice when someone asks them makes people feel even more heartbroken.

Cruel life…

Huyen choked up when she told about the journey of mother and daughter fighting illness.

At the emergency room on the 6th floor (children’s blood disease area), we saw Ms. Nguyen Thi Huyen (Thach That, Hanoi) feeding her baby, the baby ate a few pieces but constantly vomited and coughed a lot. … hastily wiped away her tears, she constantly patted and encouraged her child.

Through the story she told, about October of last year, she contracted COVID-19, after being isolated for treatment for 5 weeks (3 weeks in the concentrated treatment area, 2 weeks in isolation in the commune), when she returned home, she found her baby blue. More restless, the baby constantly complained of leg pain, dizziness, pounding heart phenomenon.

Taking the child to the hospital in Thach That, the doctors suspected that he had blood cancer, so he transferred him to the National Institute of Hematology – Blood Transfusion, where after the examination, the doctors also diagnosed and told the family to prepare. morale.

When she heard the news, she was dumbfounded, her little daughter devoted all her love, the only motivation for her to continue with this life, unexpectedly got that terrible disease, God can’t help it…

Then there was a series of days when mother and daughter together “battled” the disease. During the day, she was strong and resilient with her children to cope with the tormenting pain, at night when the children fell asleep, tears came out of her eyes, thinking about her children and feeling sorry for her life, why is it so bitter and unfair? such.

Then she told about her life, she sailed twice, but only Huyen Anh with her second husband. However, after giving birth to the baby 6 months, her husband died of a congenital heart defect, from then on, she took the child back to her mother’s house, where she raised the child until now when the child was 8 years old.

The family’s situation is difficult, in 2020 the whole family gathered to borrow more to build a new house, the house was not finished yet, when her father discovered that lung cancer had metastasized, the family tried to cure a little. The next month, he passed away… Not yet relieved from the pain of losing her father, she received bad news from her daughter… All hope for the future collapsed.

For nearly a year, only the mother and daughter lived together, the house was still with the grandmother, but because the house had just been built, she still had a lot of debt, so she had to work as a maid to pay the debt and also to help her sister pay for the treatment for her grandchild. .

“The first time after chemotherapy, the blood transfusion took her home for 2 weeks, but the blood stopped faster and faster, only a week, then a few days, 3 days, recently she was always in the hospital …”, Ms. Huyen said. .

Her voice choked: “I’m in a lot of pain, constantly complaining of pain, having difficulty breathing all the time, my resistance is weak, giving birth to one disease after another… The doctor returned it. However, I asked the doctor to let me stay in the hospital for a few days. or that day, when I went home, I was in pain to see my child like this, very tormented, heartbroken, when I was too weak… I would take him home… The doctor created favorable conditions. I keep finding it difficult to breathe with a headache, constantly giving pain relievers …”.

Children with needles in their hands are still very carefree and playful.

“The thing that makes me sad, the most painful is that I don’t know about my illness, still hope that one day I will be cured. I have a great appetite, but after I was infected with COVID, I could not get a blood transfusion, my teeth I’m all broken and can’t eat anymore… When I see anyone eat anything, I want to eat, but I only ate a few pieces and then I throw up. When mom tells the other children, but I don’t agree, just tell me to leave it there when When I recover from the disease, I eat… I still hope that one day I will be cured…. In just a month, I lost 8kg,” she choked.

“It’s so cruel! I don’t think my life is so tragic. I hope to have a child to be friends, talk to, and rely on when I’m old, but God won’t have the heart to take away my only hope…”.

All just try

Out in the hallway, we saw Uncle Nguyen Van Nam (62 years old, from Chuong My, Hanoi) lulling his 2-month-old grandson. The baby was in pain, crying harshly, but the clumsy man could only say “ah”.

After a while, the baby fell asleep, talked to the doctor, said that after a month of birth, the child continuously cried a lot, stopped breastfeeding, the family took the child to the National Children’s Hospital for examination and blood tests, and the doctor discovered that the child had leukaemia. grant. The emergency at Children’s Hospital on the night of April 28 to noon on April 29 was transferred to the National Institute of Hematology – Blood Transfusion.

“I cried a lot, my grandfather and mother kept hugging each other all the time. When I went to the Institute of Hematology, fortunately, the hospital let two people take care of them, but that day at the Children’s Institute, only my mother could go to the emergency room. to save the night when I was crying, the grandfather outside was very impatient, but he couldn’t do anything,” said Uncle Nam.

After struggling for a while, Uncle Nam’s little grandchild also fell asleep.

Then he told me that my parents are disabled, my mother is deaf, my father is in a wheelchair, my grandmother has to stay at home to take care of my father and 2-year-old grandchild, and he takes the mother and daughter to see a doctor. My mother is deaf and is an ethnic minority so she is not very agile, at night lying with her child, she cries but sometimes she does not know it, afraid that she will cry, so he has to be on duty day and night.

At home, from the economy to taking care of the children as well as grandchildren, grandparents are in charge… When I go to the hospital, it’s also hard for those who go to work, people at home too, but knowing how, everyone has to try.

With red eyes, the doctor said: “The doctor said that the baby is too incurable, the risk is very high, I will live with him until I know that day… My mother is deaf and can’t hear the doctor’s words well, so she can’t fully understand the nature of the disease. the serious nature of my illness …”, not wanting to delve into her pain, we stopped the conversation here.

Leaving the hospital when it was already dark, our hearts were filled with thoughts. Been to many hospitals, exposed to many unfortunate lives, each time has left us with unrelenting torments. Hopefully the health sector of the country will grow more and more so that more lives can be saved, so that the pain is no longer in the children…
