The explosion destroyed part of the Saratoga hotel, located opposite the Capitolio building – a famous historic structure in the center of Havana. Several nearby vehicles were also damaged.

Initial investigation indicated that the cause of the explosion may have been an incident during the transportation of liquefied gas from a truck to the hotel.

At the scene, firefighters worked to cool the remains of a liquefied gas tank truck that is believed to have exploded on the street next to the Saratoga hotel. People living and working in buildings near the explosion site have been evacuated for safety, while Cuban authorities are launching a blood donation program to support injured victims. .
