Proposal to build a fiber optic cable route to Con Dao

On the afternoon of May 4, at the People’s Committee of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province (BR-VT), the delegation had a meeting with provincial leaders on the state management of the information and communication industry in the locality.

Mr. Le Van Tuan – Director of the Department of Information and Communications reported on the implementation of tasks in 2021 and the plan in 2022. Accordingly, the province’s postal network has covered 100% of communes and wards, the number of documents received and returned the results of administrative procedures through the public postal service in 2021, reaching 852,347 applications, nearly 2 times higher than the previous year (453,916 records). The province has a smartphone-to-population ratio of 90%, and the percentage of households with fiber-optic cable reaches 93.53%. In the field of press and publishing, BR-VT is also one of the first provinces to assign the Department of Information and Communications to place orders with central and local press; using scanning technology, listening to public opinion in the press and social networks to promptly handle arising problems. BR-VT also focuses on digital transformation of government activities to support administrative reform, complete specialized databases; propagate and mobilize people to use digital platforms and promote digital payments. Up to now, BR-VT has put into operation 3 virtual assistants using AI technology, the rate of non-cash charge collection of telecommunications and cable TV businesses increased from 46.24% in September 2021. to 73.27% in the first quarter of 2022.

In addition, provincial leaders proposed the Ministry of Information and Communications to direct telecommunications businesses, especially VNPT and Viettel, to build a fiber optic cable route to Con Dao to synchronize with EVN’s plan to build a power cable line; direct telecommunications businesses to prioritize expanding 5G coverage, consider BR-VT as a key area for network investment, pilot the shutdown of 2G and 3G waves; encouraging businesses to invest in data centers and cloud computing services to combine with undersea fiber optic cables, towards building BR-VT into an important international Internet “data port”. heart of Vietnam.

Deputy Minister Pham Duc Long acknowledged and highly appreciated the results achieved by BR-VT, especially the percentage of households with fiber optic cables and people with smartphones. The Deputy Minister supported the proposal of the province and encouraged businesses to invest in data centers in BR-VT, directing telecommunications businesses to convert 2G and 3G broadcasting stations to 4G technology to improve Internet speed. mobile broadband, bringing undersea fiber optic cable to Con Dao. In addition to promoting the use of digital payment platforms, the province needs to choose a number of other digital platforms to bring people’s activities to the digital environment. The Deputy Minister also suggested that the province propose to the National Committee on Digital Transformation to solve difficulties and commit to supporting localities in the process of digital transformation.

Previously, Deputy Minister Pham Duc Long and the delegation of the Ministry visited, worked and presented gifts to the Department of Information and Communications of Ba Ria-Vung Tau. The Deputy Minister directed the promotion of the province’s agricultural products on the trading floor, and coordinated with units to support farmers to participate in digital transformation to promote economic development.

Consider mobile coverage as providing electricity for people

On May 5, 2022, in Hau Giang, the Ministry of Information and Communications and the Provincial People’s Committee signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in developing ICT for the period of 2022 – 2023. Deputy Minister Pham Duc Long agreed with Hau Giang’s recommendations on supporting the digital transformation process and directed the Ministry’s agencies to accept it at the meeting. Specifically: The Ministry of Information and Communications directs the Vietnam Post Corporation and the Viettel Post Corporation to support the Hau Giang Department of Information and Communications to put agricultural production households on the Postmart and Seashell e-commerce platforms; direct telecommunications businesses to share infrastructure and deploy 5G service provision in Hau Giang in the second quarter of 2022; supporting the province in formulating plans and orientations for telecommunications development in the next 3-5 years; realize the goal of universalizing smartphones for families; guiding and disseminating good and effective models of digital transformation…

Within the framework of the working session, the Ministry of Information and Communications and the People’s Committee of Hau Giang province signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the development of information and communication technology for the period of 2022 – 2023. The Department of Information and Communications needs to advise the Provincial People’s Committee to choose a number of digital platforms for people to use. For the development of the digital economy, it is necessary to be determined to carry out digital transformation with businesses in the area.
