Children need to be fully vaccinated

According to ABC News last night, in the US, up to this point, there have been at least 109 cases of mysterious hepatitis in children and at least 5 children died from this disease. 418 cases have been recorded in at least 33 countries and territories. 70% of patients are positive for adenovirus.

Health authorities have confirmed that the disease is not related to the Covid-19 vaccine, because many of the children infected are too young, not old enough to be vaccinated against Covid-19.

The health authorities have not yet found a link between the disease and a particular food, animal, geographical area or contamination state.

Dr. Ali Raja (Massachusetts General Hospital, USA) told ABC News that parents should pay attention to the following 3 symptoms of children: yellow skin, yellow eyes, dark urine. These are warning symptoms associated with liver disease.

Meanwhile, yesterday, the US CDC also released the latest guidance for parents to identify symptoms related to hepatitis including: fever, fatigue, nausea/vomiting, jaundice, yellow eyes. In particular, the US CDC recommends that parents should give their children a full immunization against diseases, including hepatitis vaccination from birth to 2 years old.

Adeno virus is warned in medical about causing disease in young children

Regarding adenovirus, Dr. Nguyen Pham Anh Hoa, Head of Hepatology Department – National Children’s Hospital (Hanoi), said that this is a virus that has been discovered since 1953 and it can cause disease in many organs. . This virus has up to 57 types and 7 strains with different pathogenic abilities. The most common lesions include: respiratory tract infection, eye conjunctivitis (pink eye), cystitis, meningitis… After rotavirus,

adeno virus is the second cause of disease in the gastrointestinal tract with symptoms in the stomach and intestines… In young children, common digestive disorders caused by adenovirus include diarrhea, vomiting, and nausea.

Adeno is a virus that is very common in young children. According to previous studies, the majority of young children had an adenoid infection once between the ages of 0 and 4 years old. Recently, adenovirus type 41 was found in children with mysterious hepatitis, but whether this virus is really the cause of the disease is still a big question, according to Dr. Hoa.

Hoa also said that adenovirus type 41 is currently only identified as the cause of diarrhea. At this time, there is not enough evidence to confirm that adenopathy is the cause of disease in the above group of children with acute liver injury. However, the recognition of the presence of adenos in some pediatric patients requires continued close monitoring and in-depth study.

Dr. Hoa assessed that the possibility of mysterious hepatitis cases in Vietnam was completely possible. Currently, countries near Vietnam have recorded cases, of which Indonesia has reported 3 deaths; Singapore 1 case was recorded in a 10-month-old child. Regarding treatment, regardless of the cause, hepatitis in children also needs to be vigilant for early detection and early treatment to minimize the extent of damage.

According to the leader of the National Children’s Hospital, in recent years, adenovirus has been warned that it needs to be controlled, because the virus is often transmitted on the background of immunocompromised children, children with chronic lung disease (children) premature birth). Besides, adeno is still known to cause pneumonia in young children and is still often warned in the medical field.
