There is not much space left in resources, so we need the help of science and technology

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development said that when natural resources are no longer available, the development of the forestry industry and the forestry economy needs the help of science and technology.

On May 16, the Forestry University and a number of units under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development held a seminar to discuss the orientation of science, technology development and forestry innovation in the period 2022 – 2030. .

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Quoc Doanh, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, reviewed a number of achievements of the forestry sector and forestry economy, with impressive figures such as 42% of the forest cover area, trade surplus of 13 billion US dollars.

“Thanks to science and technology, the forestry industry can develop so strongly,” said Mr. Doanh.

According to Mr. Doanh, in order to assess the role of science, technology, scientists, in the development of the forestry industry, it is necessary to look at a long period, not just look at a few years.

“If we didn’t study forest varieties planted many years ago, how would we have planted forests to develop and create a source of raw materials for inputs to produce such forestry products? We have built a very magnificent furniture and woodworking system because we have access to more and more modern technologies, the costs are decreasing, and the quality of designs is getting higher and higher.

We approach and solve environmental problems, protect biodiversity… also thanks to scientists who paid attention to these issues early on. For example, since 2006, the Forestry University has established the Institute of Forest Ecology and Environment. We not only have two large research institutions, the University of Forestry and the Vietnam Academy of Forestry Science, but also a large number of participating businesses, “said Mr. Doanh.

Mr. Doanh said that, to develop forestry and the forestry economy, there is still great room, thanks to the problems with the US and EU markets, which have now been resolved relatively satisfactorily. However, the resource space is not much because it is difficult for afforestation land to open any more. Therefore, the help of science and technology is urgently needed.

“Only science and technology and high-quality human resources can help us take advantage of opportunities,” said Mr. Doanh.

The Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development also asked many questions and said that scientists needed to research to answer: How should we develop, in this condition of raw materials? Same forest, same trees… will we meet the market in the coming years? We know that we need big wood, but what do we need to do if we want to have big wood?,… Then what kind of tree, how intensive farming…, we really need a lot of new technology, we all need science.. .

A representative of the University of Forestry said that one of the goals in the coming period of the university is to continue promoting service and consulting activities, and to transfer scientific and technological research results into production practice. create a close link between research – training – production. The number of scientific and technological topics, projects, works and services increases by at least 10% per year, actively contributing to training and supplementing revenue for the university’s autonomous process.
