A series of flights from Tan Son Nhat could not take off because of heavy rain

On the evening of May 27, the departure area of ​​Tan Son Nhat airport was full of passengers waiting to depart. A series of flights were continuously reported to be delayed because of bad weather.

Thai Trieu Vy (26 years old), had a flight from Tan Son Nhat to Da Nang of Pacific Airlines at 17:30. However, the airline twice announced that the flight was delayed until 19h15 and then 20h30 because of heavy rain. The male passenger shared that he had to wait in a tired state from the afternoon at Tan Son Nhat airport but did not know when he would arrive in Da Nang according to the itinerary.

“My plan is to return to Da Nang for dinner and sightseeing, but so far I am still sitting at the airport, both hungry and tired. Hundreds of other passengers are in the same situation.” Mr. Vy said.

At more than 19:30, the information board at Tan Son Nhat airport continuously displays information about flights to Hai Phong, Da Nang, Hanoi, Quy Nhon (Binh Dinh), Da Lat (Lam Dong), Hue… delay 2-3 hours.

A representative of the Southern Airport Authority said that based on weather conditions and prescribed standards, the air traffic authority will decide to allow the aircraft to take off and land.

“Maximum wind speed, minimum visibility and many other factors need to be considered to ensure that the aircraft can take off and land safely. In case the items do not meet the safety criteria, the aircraft is guided and redirected to the alternate aerodrome.the Port Authority representative explained.

In the afternoon of the same day, Ho Chi Minh City poured rain on a large scale. Thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds spread across the area with a flow ranging from 20-25 mm, lasting for more than an hour, then stopped, then continued with heavy rain.

Radio Hydrometeorology Southern region said that in the afternoon of the same day, convective clouds developed strongly in the west, east, central and northern areas of Ho Chi Minh City, causing showers accompanied by thunderstorms. During a thunderstorm, there are tornadoes, lightning and strong winds.

From now until the end of the week, the rain will still maintain but the amount of rain is not heavy. In early June, more rainfall is forecast.
