Countries have adopted 20 resolutions and decisions, including Bangkok Declaration on a common agenda to promote sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region.

This is an important document, setting out specific action directions to accelerate the implementation of sustainable development goals in the region, especially meaningful in the context that the region is forecasted to be very difficult to achieve. meet the sustainable development goals on time, even up to 35 years behind.

Governments have pledged to leave no one behind, and to put women and young people at the heart of development. They further affirm the importance of trade as an inclusive growth engine, protecting the planet, strengthening regional connectivity and exploiting technological opportunities.

The 78th ESCAP Annual Meeting took place from May 23 to 27 in Bangkok with the theme “A Common Agenda to Promote Sustainable Development in the Asia-Pacific”. Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam led the Vietnamese delegation to attend and made many positive and effective contributions to the Meeting.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Phan Chi Thanh was elected to the Board of Directors and directly led the meetings, as well as the election of two Vietnamese agencies to the Executive Council of the Center for Sustainable Agriculture Mechanization. and the Institute of Statistics for the Asia-Pacific region, showing the credibility of the countries, and at the same time affirming the role and position of Vietnam at ESCAP in particular and at multilateral forums in general.

Established in 1947, ESCAP is one of five Regional Committees under the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC – one of the six main organs of the United Nations). ESCAP was assigned by the United Nations to support socio-economic development in the Asia-Pacific region.

ESCAP has 53 full members and 9 associate members. The ESCAP meeting is an annual meeting for member countries to consider and discuss all socio-economic issues and regional cooperation in areas of mutual interest, with the participation of senior leaders. countries, leaders of the United Nations, many other international and regional organizations.
