The guy wants to quit his job with a salary of 3,400 USD/month because he is too free, he just sits around typing in Excel all day

Is “too free” a good enough reason to quit a job? This is the situation that Kenji Ong – an office worker in Singapore, is facing. He said he is considering quitting because the job is too easy and boring even though it brings him an income of 3,400 USD (more than 78 million VND) per month.

Ong posted in a Facebook group with the question: “Does anyone want to change jobs because they have too much free time? I don’t know what to do when I get to the office and only have 20-30 emails to deal with during the day. Honestly, when I work from home, I can get a day’s work done in just 2-3 hours. When I go to work, I often pretend to type in Excel to look busy.

My boss sat right in the back so I couldn’t open anything else. When there is an email, I check and process it immediately. I find it extremely difficult to go through an 8-hour workday just doing that.”

According to Ong, he is not the only one in this office. “When I look at my colleagues, I also see they only deal with emails, some people sit and think, others go to the toilet longer to kill time,” the guy said.

Ong even said that his colleagues with many years of experience in the company told him not to reveal to others that he had almost nothing to do. Of course, Ong admits it’s a job that doesn’t pay too much, but it’s comfortable, there’s no pressure at all, there’s no “office drama”, no overtime, and everyone can leave. at 5:30 pm in peace.

However, Ong still felt something was missing. “I find it a waste of time and resources. After a few months since returning to the office, I’m always in a state of lack of energy and motivation. Pretending to be busy when I have nothing to do. It’s really annoying. Sometimes I want to scream out loud that I’m bored.”

Ong’s post quickly went viral with more than 600 comments from netizens. Many people share that they are in a similar situation while some are jealous of Ong’s work.

“As someone who receives and processes more than 100 emails a day, I envy you.” a writer.

“Perhaps you have to do a job so busy that you don’t have time to eat, sleep and rest before you can think differently about your current job,” another commented.

Some people advise Ong to step out of his comfort zone and find a suitable job because it will be better for his future in the long run.

Regarding income, Ong said that after deducting taxes, he receives about $ 2,700 – $ 3,000 / month – the normal level in Singapore. “Sales or technical people in Singapore earn at least $4,000 to $5,000 per month. For me, the amount of money I receive monthly is average,” added Ong.

When asked by some people if the company is recruiting, Ong said that his company currently does not have a recruitment target.
