Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited troops on duty on the eastern front of the country to understand the position of Ukrainian defense forces as Russia continues to intensify its offensive in the Donbass.
The Guardian newspaper quoted a new statement from the office of the president of Ukraine as saying that Zelensky on June 5 visited command posts and frontline positions of the army. Ukraine in Bakhmut in the Donetsk Oblast and Lysychansk in the Luhansk Oblast.
“The President heard information about the operational situation in these parts of the front as well as the logistics of the Ukrainian security forces,” the statement said.
Earlier in the day, Mr. Zelensky also visited soldiers fighting in the Zaporizhzhia front-line area, southeastern Ukraine. During these trips, the head of Kiev visited and encouraged soldiers and presented them with medals and valuable gifts.
Oleksandr Starukh, the governor of Zaporizhzhia told the president that about 60% of the territory of this region is being occupied. Russia occupied with more than 2,700 items of infrastructure destroyed or damaged.
Humanitarian centers have been set up in Zaporizhzhia to provide temporary shelter for people from territories and residential areas that are under the control of Moscow forces or are in conflict.
“In the past 15 days, the largest number of evacuees have come from the Kherson region. Some of them are from Mariupol,” said Mr.
Zelensky’s office later added that the president also visited a medical facility in the area and talked to people forced to flee their homes. He promised to take action to ensure that all those displaced are given appropriate accommodation and food.
