Salary 14 million but students refuse: The principal’s torment

Some traffic majors no longer attract candidates, the university president worries about affecting the infrastructure and technology of the country in the future.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Long, Rector of the University of Communications and Transport shared that it was very sad when the majors that were the strength of the school were finding it very difficult to recruit students, because learners thought that the output work was hard, while the demand for development was difficult. social development is still needed. These can be mentioned as traffic construction engineering (jobs applying technology to repair roads and bridges, high-speed railway, …), construction machinery engineering, railway industry. .

“Now that the whole country enrolls in all economic sectors, we don’t know if the country’s economy will develop in the future when the country’s infrastructure and technology are like this,” said Mr. Long. fear.

Mr. Long said, his former students are now at the top of the units and businesses who told him about introducing good people to the Central Highlands, with a salary of 14 million per month. However, many of the students he introduced refused and replied that they accepted to work in places closer to home with a salary of only 7-9 million VND, for the reason of being afraid to go far.

According to Mr. Long, inadequacies also arise with the teaching staff. “Like traffic engineering, our school has 220 lecturers. Previously, developing this team to train for about 1,500 students, now it only enrolls about 600 students. While other schools, although the number of students is about 200-300, but only a few dozen lecturers, it is quite comfortable.

The Rector of the University of Transport said that the current difficulties of the transport industry affect the choice of learners. But every country needs transport infrastructure, because that is the basic condition for development. Therefore, in the future, these may be “hot” industries.

Salary 14 million but students refuse: The principal’s torment
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Long, Rector of the University of Transport.

Sharing more about this fact, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Chuong, Vice President of the University of Transport, said that the two fields of railway and road are the two main branches of the University of Communications and Transport and accompany these two disciplines. are fields such as railway-road construction, mechanical engineering, railway-road system control; economics, railway – road management,…

“However, in recent times, the fields related to mechanics, construction, electronics and management in the railway sector have all faced difficulties.

In the field of road construction engineering, in recent years, investment capital for transportation has almost significantly decreased, so the demand for human resources has decreased, leading to the need to enroll in school as well. decrease accordingly. However, we think that it is only temporary, but in the long run, if a country wants to develop, infrastructure, especially transportation infrastructure is extremely important, playing a fundamental role for the development of the country. socioeconomic development of the country.

Therefore, we hope that these industries need to be further expanded, attracting high-quality human resources,” said Mr. Chuong.

According to Mr. Chuong, about 5 years ago, the hot industry trend was the field of police and military; Recently, the field of economics, banking and almost society has not paid much attention to the technical field. This is the biggest gap in the country’s development human resources.

“One of the things that does not attract workers in this field is income. Currently, the average income of workers usually in traffic construction enterprises is about 7-9 million, in high working positions it can be from 15-16 million and higher, while spending for private consumption is increasing, so there is no appeal”.

Therefore, the leaders of the University of Communications and Transport expect the society to pay more attention, properly understand the value of these fields, to understand and choose in enrollment.

“Currently, we still lack high-quality human resources in these industries. Management human resources in these industries are also lacking, leading to high costs and construction costs, even many unfinished projects due to poor management.

Leaders of the University of Communications and Transport also said that there should be an order policy for specialized specialized industries of the field of transport in particular and a number of other socio-economic branches to ensure secure development.
