Seabass (also known as sea bass) can live in both sea and fresh water. In the past, they were caught for charity, but now they are raised in many places because of their good productivity and high economic efficiency.

Seabass has the following characteristics: gray body, elongated, pointed muzzle, wide and slightly staggered mouth. They are distributed mainly in tropical or subtropical areas of the Western Pacific Ocean or North Asia.

In Vietnam, seabass is often found in marine areas, estuaries, canals and shrimp ponds, especially in the southwest provinces and the Northern Delta.

In Vietnam, seabass is often found in marine areas, estuaries, canals, and shrimp ponds.

Ha Thi Ngoc (31 years, An Giang) said: “In my hometown, there are 2 types of seabass: sea bass and brackish barramundi. To distinguish these two types, people often rely on the color of the fish’s body. The seabuckthorn on the dorsal surface is long, the upper surface and belly are silver, and the brackish water barramundi is golden brown. But both are less fishy, the meat is white, the bones are a little… suitable to be processed into various delicious dishes such as porridge, steamed, fried, boiled…”.

Also according to Ms. Ha Thi Ngoc, seabass is a popular fish, so you can buy it anywhere. Moreover, if anyone wants to enjoy fresh seabass, they have to go to the local market or seafood supermarket.

“Back then, I remember a lot of natural seabass in my hometown, when it rained, every family invited each other to catch them and dry them to eat. Now they have become the preferred specialty of many housewives, but they are mainly farming, not as natural as before. Usually, fresh seabass costs around 180,000 VND/kg,” said Ha Thi Ngoc.

From seabass, housewives can make many delicious dishes such as:
