People with COVID-19 and flu are twice as likely to die

This is a new study published in the prestigious medical journal Lancet yesterday.

The study involved 305,000 people in the UK hospitalized with COVID-19, of which 227 were infected with both COVID-19 and influenza. Their condition was much more severe than the rest of the group.

These findings suggest that influenza testing needs to be increased in hospitalized people with COVID-19, the researchers stress.

The world is recording an increase in viruses that cause common seasonal respiratory illnesses as people resume their new normal lives and do not apply epidemic prevention measures.
