Russia warns Germany, France about expelling diplomats

The statement came after Germany on April 4 announced the expulsion of 40 Russian diplomats. Germany claims 40 Russian diplomats are “unwelcome” and must leave Germany within five days.

This is the response of the German Government regarding the situation of hostilities between Russia and Ukraine, especially in the town of Bucha. At noon on April 4, the German Foreign Ministry summoned Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergei J. Nechayev to announce the expulsion of 40 Russian diplomats from Germany.

France then made the same decision against 35 Russian diplomats. The Interfax news agency quoted the Russian Foreign Ministry as saying that Moscow would respond to this decision of France.

And most recently, on April 5, Denmark announced the expulsion of 15 Russian diplomats, Italy expelled 30 Russian diplomats.

According to Spiegel newspaper, the decision of Germany expel diplomats Russia is likely to add to the diplomatic tension between Moscow and Berlin. The German government also had different opinions on the issue of expelling Russian diplomats.

Russia has emphasized that Germany’s decision to expel many of its diplomats is in response special military campaign Russia’s actions in Ukraine are “unfriendly” and will worsen bilateral relations.

Russia believes that the baseless reduction in the number of diplomatic staff at Russian missions in these countries will narrow the space for maintaining dialogue between the two sides.
