Spending nearly ten million dong teaching dogs to go to the toilet

HanoiFor nearly a year now, the relationship between Ms. Hien and her neighbor has become strained when Ben, a mixed-breed Pekingese dog, often goes to the toilet indiscriminately in the alley.

“I repeatedly taught Ben to go to the toilet in the right place but failed. He went very spontaneously, even peeing on the bed,” said Ms. Thu Hien, 35 years old, in Tay Ho district.

A year ago, she bought Ben as a birthday present for her daughter. On the day she brought it home, she bought a cage and a toilet tray, but the animal was only used to going to the toilet freely, from the living room to the bedroom, from the floor to the bed and chair.

“The hardest part is hearing the neighbors blame and scold them when they let Ben’s kid sneak out to go to the bathroom,” she said. In meetings of the neighborhood group, Ms. Hien’s family is always criticized and failed to rank cultural family because of the error of not knowing how to manage dogs. Whenever they see a “mine” field in the alley, they assume that Ben’s son is the culprit and ask her to clean up. “I’ve never been as embarrassed as the day I started raising a dog,” the 35-year-old woman shook her head.

Mr. Ngo Quang Thang, Long Bien district also became the nanny of the dog when the animal went to the toilet in the wrong place. In July 2021, he bought a golden dog for nearly ten million dong. On the new day, the animal was hyperactive, disobedient and went to the toilet in the wrong place. “It walks very loosely, most of the time I have to sit and watch. I see signs of being carried to the toilet to create a habit. But teaching forever remains the same, gradually creating inhibition between the owner and the dog,” he said. tell.

Unable to stay at home all day to look after the dog to go to the toilet or suffer complaints from neighbors, Ms. Hien and Mr. Thang went to pet dog training centers with the request “to teach how to go to the toilet in the right place”.

“The center commits that after three months of training the dog will be obedient, more disciplined, won’t bite the owner and know how to do many things. But I just need Ben to go to the toilet in the right place, less headaches with the neighbors.” Hien said.

Mr. Tran Le Thanh Tien, 25 years old, a trainer and veterinarian at Trau Quy Dog Training Center (Gia Lam district), said that the service of training pet dogs and professional dogs has been around since 1996 when the center establish. Each month the center receives about 15 children, most of them teach how to look after the house and protect the owner. But in the past 5-6 years, the need to send pet dogs to practice discipline has increased. On average, the center receives 20 to 30 new animals per month. The number of training dogs remains from 60 to 80, in charge of 11 trainers.

When “enlisting” pets, they are trained to obey commands, build discipline, listen to their owners, practice physical strength, increase socialization… “But most of the requests are for dogs to learn. how to go to the toilet in the right place,” said the trainer and said, with young dogs (under 8 months old), it takes about a month to form a habit, while old dogs take a month and a half.

Each course lasts three months, families have to pay from 8.5 million to 9 million for small dogs. Particularly fierce dogs such as Pitbull, Tibetan Mastiff, Becgie, Rottweiler… the fee is up to 12 million VND.

“But not every dog that comes home from school knows how to go to the toilet in the right place,” complained Mai Huong, 28, in Thanh Xuan district. A year ago, she signed up for a discipline course for Poodle breed dogs at the training center. On the day of picking up, she confidently released the dog into the alley because she thought that the mistake of going to the toilet indiscriminately would be overcome. But Huong quickly received a scolding from her neighbors when her pet often urinated on the wall and dropped “mines” in the middle of the alley. Thanks to the scene when she repeatedly apologized to her neighbors for the dog defecating indiscriminately, Huong planned to bring it to others.

Facing the above situation, coach Thanh Tien said that due to sudden changes in living environment, pets have not yet been able to integrate. To overcome, the teacher and the owner will continue to combine instruction, gradually adjusting the habit. But he emphasized, the training does not take much time.

In addition to teaching to go to the toilet in the right place, many families with fierce dogs also go to training centers to practice discipline, follow orders and not attack owners. Mr. Son Hung, 50 years old, Hoang Mai district is raising a three-month-old becgie dog. Since being picked up, the animal has shown signs of being hyperactive and difficult to obey. When it sees people approaching it barks fiercely, ruffles its feathers and is ready to attack, regardless of guests or owners.

Afraid that the dog would not listen to the owner, and easily attack people, causing serious consequences, the 50-year-old man quickly sent the animal to the training center. “I hope the training will help the dog learn to calm down and follow commands,” Hung said.

Paying 9 million VND for the dog training course, Mr. Thang thinks that this is the right price. He said, dog training services were born to help families easily discipline their dogs. Some families save time on self-training but success is not guaranteed.

As for Hien’s family, Ben’s habit of forming a habit of going to the toilet in the right place helps her reduce stress and avoid conflicts with neighbors. “As long as the dog doesn’t defecate from inside the house to the street, I won’t be said to be an unconscious owner, I’ll pay no matter how much I pay,” she said.
