Our family has been living in this apartment complex for 2 years. Thinking of the saying “sell brothers far away, buy close neighbors”, we always treat our neighbors with kindness as well as let our children participate in collective activities so that they have more close friends.

However, my family’s openness also brought some troubles. For example, my husband always becomes a repairman to help the neighbors’ houses at any time. There was a day after 11 o’clock at night, but there was still someone at home asking my husband to fix the faucet because… my house had a toolbox.

I’m not petty, but I’m really unhappy with a neighbor’s house who always lets their children come over to my house without permission. While I always teach my children to be polite, to go to a neighbor’s house to know how to greet adults, not to arbitrarily take other people’s things to play, especially when seeing a neighbor serving rice, I have to say hello immediately… . The girl next door did the exact opposite.

She was in 3rd grade, much taller than her peers. Her family is also somewhat richer than mine because through gatherings her parents brag about their income. However, I don’t understand how they teach and raise children, but around 6 pm, she rings my doorbell. When my child opened the door, she ran into the house, turned on the TV, opened the refrigerator to get food like her own. Even, one day I was too busy to prepare dinner for my children, when I looked back and forth, my child was too lazy to eat, but she ate it all. She also often sent my children to get this and that for her.

I didn’t have the heart to scold a child for the food, so I reminded her to come home for dinner, but she said it was still a long time before we could eat at home. My house served rice, the girl swooped on the tray to pick up dishes, very impolite…

Concerned that she would set a bad example for my children, I tactfully talked to her mother about giving her children dinner earlier. However, I did not expect that she not only did not take any action to remind her child but also said “because he likes your house so much”.

It’s hard to teach my children, it’s even harder to teach neighbors, what should I do to avoid offending everyone?
