More than 2,200 Ferrari supercars were recalled because of brake problems

Ferrari China has just released recall information for more than 2,222 vehicles related to brake system errors.

The Ferrari distributor in China has recently issued a recall order related to more than 2,000 supercars of the 458 and 488 models sold in this country due to brake problems. This recall is directly related to the brake system and was announced last week.

It is expected that the start time of this recall will start in the Chinese market from May 30, 2022. The models affected by this recall include the Ferrari 458 Italia, 458 Spider, 458 Speciale and 458 Speciale A. Along with that are the Ferrari 488 GTB and 488 Spider. All 2,222 Ferraris in this recall were manufactured between March 2010 and March 2019.

The reason for the recall of more than 2,000 Ferraris is similar to the cause of a series of Ferraris of the same type being recalled in the US late last year. All have faults in the brake system that can lead to brake fluid leaks. If brake fluid leaks to dangerous levels, the consequences can result in the brake system not working properly, which can lead to an accident. However, the models in this recall all have a brake fluid level warning system when reaching a dangerous level.

Users will be alerted by the vehicle through the information screen when the brake fluid level in the tank is at 52% or lower. At that time, the message “Brake fluid level low, Go to dealer slowly” (brake fluid is low, bring the car to the dealer at a slow speed), will display a warning. In addition, indicator lights and sounds will also be activated to attract the driver’s attention.

Ferrari’s car recall in China is part of the international recall program for two models, 488 and 458. This means that there will be more than 2,222 Ferraris in China and more than 5,000 cars in the US around the world affected by this serious problem.

Ferrari 488s outside of the aforementioned production time are not affected, along with the successors to the F8 Tributo and F8 Spider. Currently, Ferrari has also stopped accepting orders for the F8 Tributo and Spider to focus more on the 296 GTB electric hybrid and may also kill off this turbocharged V8 engine.
