Not only iPhone, all Apple products will switch to USB-C?
In addition to the iPhone, Apple is looking to bring the USB-C port to other Lightning-using product lines such as AirPods, Magic Mouse, Magic Keyboard, etc.
This is the opinion of leading Apple expert, Ming Chi Kuo. Last week, an analyst at TF International Securities predicted that Apple will remove the Lightning port and switch to USB-C on the iPhone 15 released in 2023. Another Bloomberg article claims Apple is testing a USB iPhone- Internal C.
In the latest tweet, Mr. Kuo added that Apple will replace the Lightning port on other products with a USB-C port. Currently, Lightning appears on devices such as AirPods, AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, Magic keyboard, mouse and trackpad, MagSafe power bank for iPhone.
He also thinks that an iPhone without ports is not feasible due to the limitations of current wireless charging technology, as well as the poor MagSafe ecosystem. Apple introduced MagSafe charging technology with the iPhone 12 in 2020, but the growth rate was not as expected.
Previously, it was rumored that Apple would remove all ports on the iPhone, not using Lightning or USB-C. However, it seems that the mandatory use of USB-C standard charging ports on all EU phones and tablets, combined with the limited MagSafe ecosystem, will cause Apple to rethink its stance.
Apple is the only major smartphone maker that hasn’t jumped on the USB-C train yet. If Apple really considers switching to USB-C for iPhones from next year, it won’t make much sense to keep the Lightning port on other products.
