Recalling Hyundai Accent, KIA Rio and K3 at risk of falling off the steering wheel

According to a notice from the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Hyundai and KIA vehicles in this recall are equipped with a steering wheel with a loosely bolted steering column bolt. This can lead to the steering column separating from the steering gear and causing loss of control.

The total number of vehicles affected by this recall of both brands is 32 units of the 2021-2022 model year in the US. In which, Hyundai Accent has 2 units, KIA Rio has 6 units and KIA Forte (K3 in Vietnam) has 24 units.

The two Korean manufacturers both recommend that customers bring the recalled vehicles to authorized dealers to have the lower steering column’s u-joint bolts checked and tightened for free if necessary.

About a month ago, Hyundai also announced a recall of Accent in the US due to a defect in the seat belt tensioner. Meanwhile, KIA also had to recall the Rio model because the hydraulic brake cylinder could damage the oil seal, affecting brake performance.
