On May 22, the 48-year-old man was shot dead in the subway in New York City. The suspect fled when the train stopped at the next station and is currently unknown, police are trying to arrest him.

New York City has recently witnessed many cases violence and attacks on subway riders. Last month, a gunman planted a smoke bomb and opened fire in a New York subway car, injuring more than 20 people.

This problem still casts a dark shadow, haunting the American people. This persistent “nightmare” has been causing deep divisions within the United States.

According to Forbes, in 2021, nearly 20 million guns have been sold in the US, which is 6 out of 100 Americans have decided to buy a gun. The pandemic has led to an economic slowdown that has many people worried about social unrest. The number of people buying guns is more, as a result, the number of people dying from guns also increases dramatically.

A survey at the University of Chicago found that 18% of American households have purchased a gun since the outbreak, increasing the percentage of US adults who own a gun to 46%. During this time, 1 in 20 adults bought a gun for the first time.

Possessing many guns, shootings also happen every day in the US, maybe suddenly in subways, supermarkets, hotels or parks. So why is gun control not so simple in the US?

The New York Times has an analysis of why it is difficult for the United States to control gun violence. According to the author, with a high level of gun ownership, with more than 393 million small guns in the US, which means more than 1 gun per person, is the leading reason why the US is a country experiencing a lot of gun violence. .

Gun ownership is also ingrained in the psyche of many Americans. And Americans don’t really make gun control a priority. While, with the complicated political system, it is difficult for the US Congress to pass a law to tighten gun control.

The administration of President Joe Biden is looking to tighten gun control. However, the fact is that it is very difficult for a law to take guns from Americans’ hands to pass soon. And so, the gun crisis is still an obsession every day, every hour for more than 330 million Americans.
