The statement was made by Ambassador Vorobyova after some member countries called for Russia to be excluded from the G20.

Speaking at a press conference, Ambassador Vorobyova stated: “Not only the G20 but many organizations are trying to get rid of Russia… The reaction of the West is completely disproportionate.”

The United States and its Western allies are assessing whether Russia should continue to be a member of the G20, after Moscow launched a special military operation in Ukraine, sources familiar with the matter said.

On the same day, Poland’s Minister of Economic Development and Technology Piotr Nowak said that Poland had discussed with the United States the exclusion of Russia from the G20 at meetings held in Washington last week.

Speaking to reporters in Warsaw, Mr Nowak said: “During our meetings with US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo, we made the above proposal and received a positive response, approval and this issue will be transferred to US President Joe Biden”.

The US Department of Commerce did not immediately respond. Although not commenting specifically on the Polish statement, an American source said that there will be consequences for Russia’s actions in multilateral forums.
