Shaheen and her family must have been looking forward to welcoming their first two children. But on the day of birth, the mother and doctors were shocked when only one baby was born.
There are no twins, only one baby is born with 2 heads, 3 hands and 2 hearts. The baby has a deformed third hand that points back between the faces.

Such a baby’s condition is parapagus dicephalic syndrome – when two babies are grafted into one body at birth. This syndrome is very easy to cause stillbirth, but on Tuesday, March 29, after the baby was born, doctors planned not to perform surgery.
The baby was transferred to a hospital in the nearby city of Indore to be monitored by doctors. The mother is still in hospital in Ratlam.
The baby is being monitored for health and has not yet undergone surgery
Doctor, Dr Lahoti said: ‘These cases are very rare and the child’s state of health remains uncertain, especially in the early days. Therefore, the doctors have decided to monitor her further and have not planned surgery for her.
Shaheen and her husband, when they went to have an ultrasound of the fetus, were told by doctors that they were twins, but they were also not diagnosed with this rare condition in advance.

Shaheen is not the first case of giving birth to a conjoined baby. In 2018, a similar case was recorded in Syria. The baby miraculously survived the surgery to remove the second head.
Dr Mehmet Koparan who performed the surgery said this severe case often leads to death. Overall, this rare encephalocele is seen in 1 in 5000 births, according to doctors. Grades 3 and 4 are less common, often fatal. The baby in this case is level 3.
