Leaving school to be the breadwinner

Cao Thi Mai is the third child in the Raglay ethnic family with 6 siblings. Having to leave school early, Mai became the breadwinner of the family. “My parents encouraged me to study so that I could have a stable job in the future, but due to difficult circumstances, I had to leave school to help my family raise them,” Mai confided.

Mai’s family lives in a house of less than 40 square meters, precarious between the vast acacia forest in the mountainous district of Khanh Vinh, Khanh Hoa province.
