Mercedes T-Class – Small MPV priced at 32,000 USD

Mercedes The new generation T-Class debuted on the basis of the third generation Renault Kangoo, using the CMF-CD platform of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance.

The minivan model has a big change in both exterior and interior. The appearance of the model is relatively small, similar to the Citan Tourer, but the Citan is more cargo-oriented, while the T-Class is positioned as a family car. The exterior is equipped with a series of new technologies, such as LED headlights, a three-spoke grille, and the design of the parts from the side to the rear has been changed to target a small family car.

Mercedes equips T-Class with standard 16-inch alloy wheels, optional 17-inch wheels. T-Class has a wheelbase of 2,716 mm, a capacity of five seats. It is expected that in the future the automaker will launch an extended wheelbase version with a capacity of seven seats.

The interior compartment has been significantly upgraded, with standard equipment on Style and Progessive versions being a 7-inch touch screen integrated with MBUX infotainment system connection, multi-function steering wheel, engine start keyless, air conditioning and LED interior lighting. The traditional clock has also been changed to a digital one, with a central 5.5-inch screen displaying the vehicle’s features.

In terms of safety systems are also equipped such as virtual assistants, seven airbags and driver assistance systems. In addition, the vehicle can be optionally equipped with Active Distance Assist and Active Driving Assist.

The rear trunk has a moderate capacity, but the rear seats can be folded down to increase the area. The tailgate opens up, but customers can choose the rear door in the form of two wings that open horizontally with an amplitude of 180 degrees.

The T-Class will be available with four engine options. The first is a 1.3-liter turbocharged three-cylinder and four-cylinder engine, with a capacity of 101 horsepower and 200 Nm of torque for the T160 version. The most powerful T180 version with a capacity of 129 horsepower and 240 Nm of torque. The second is a 1.5-liter diesel engine block with a capacity of 94 hp and 230 Nm of torque for the T160d version, while the T180d version has a capacity of 114 hp and 260 Nm of torque.

All versions come with a standard six-speed manual transmission, while the more powerful diesel or petrol versions get the option of a seven-speed DCT automatic with front-wheel drive.

Currently, the T-Class is sold in Europe for $ 32,000, $ 10,643 higher than the Renault Kangoo.

Mercedes T-Class (also known as Citan) has been produced from 2012 to present, the result of cooperation between Daimler and the alliance Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi.
