The boy who dropped out of study abroad returned to the country to revive old Vietnamese clothes

In 2015, Huy went to Germany to study. In the first two years, he majored in cultural studies, and in the next year, he switched to East Asian studies. From here, he was attracted by the national costumes and cultural traditions of many countries. “Why go to Europe to learn about Vietnamese culture and neighboring countries?” Huy wondered.

In 2018, he left the country to return home in the face of fierce objections from his family. “My parents wanted me to choose an easy path, to settle down in life. And I wanted to do what I loved,” he said.

Returning to the country, Huy was invited by a friend to make a traditional costume of the Vietnamese people. “When it comes to traditional Vietnamese costumes, many people only think of Ao Dai and know only Ao Dai. But Vietnamese antiques are a treasure with many varieties. Each dynasty in history has costumes imbued with the cultural identity of the nation,” he explained.
