According to Sputnik news agency, Antonov said that Russia hopes the US will be wise in its transition plan long range missile for Ukraine.
On May 26, the Pentagon said that the United States had not made a final decision on supplying Ukraine with the multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) that the country requested.
Antonov said Russia has also learned from Pentagon spokesman John Kirby that no final decision has been made on the matter, and Russia hopes Washington will not take such a provocative step.
Ambassador Antonov said: “The Americans are well aware that their actions are pushing the prospects for peace further. The US is being dragged deeper and deeper into the crisis in Ukraine. It has unpredictable consequences for security. global security”.
He suggested that if such modern American weapons were supplied to Ukraine, they could be deployed near the border, allowing Ukrainian forces to attack Russian cities.
Antonov stressed that Russia will not tolerate this situation, and will take the necessary steps to “remove capabilities” of the Ukrainian forces. Accordingly, he called on Washington and Kiev to “face reality” and move towards a political solution to the crisis.
Earlier, on May 26, CNN quoted many US officials as saying that Washington may include advanced long-range missile weapon systems in a new military support package for Ukraine. This package could be announced as soon as next week.
Ukraine has asked the US to provide it with multiple rocket launchers and high mobility missile systems (HIMARS).
