PeaceEvery year, in May, the people of Cat village invite each other to cast nets and catch fish at Deo dam, dividing equally among all families.

From June 1, a series of websites posted pictures and clips of people in Cat hamlet, Yen Phu commune, Lac Son district throwing nets in the river. Fish moved ashore are sorted, lined up neatly and divided equally, about 6-7 kg per family. Everyone voluntarily took their share of the house, no one compared more or less, the more real.

“I don’t think the scene of catching and sharing fish with 200 households has been going on for decades, and now is enjoyed by so many people,” said 36-year-old Bui Thi Lam, who filmed and shared videos on social media. .

On some forums, the clip attracted tens of millions of likes, comments and shares. Many people expressed their admiration for the strong friendship of the people here. “Nowadays, the scene where the whole village shares each fish is very touching. I feel like I’m back in my childhood,” commented user Thanh Mai.

Ms. Lam said, on the morning of May 13, 10 middle-aged men in the village went to Deo dam to catch fish. This dam is nearly a kilometer long, providing irrigation water for agriculture in the area. Taking advantage of the water surface, for decades, the people of Cat hamlet have collected money to buy seeds, raise them together, and then divide them after harvesting.

By 10 a.m., the fishing was complete. On the shore, Ms. Lam took over the division. Each household receives one big catfish and 4-5 small fish, not to mention shrimp and shrimp. All fish are divided equally according to estimation, without using scales because “it’s always been the same”, but no one compares more or less. “Going to the market to buy is simpler than putting effort into catching each child. But 200 households still maintain the annual custom because they want everyone to do it for fun, as an activity to tighten the village’s friendship.” she says.

“The dam release day is like a festival, people bring hooves, people bring nets, people release nets to catch fish. Other neighbors are also invited to enjoy the fish. Every year I participate,” said Phuong, a Neighbors expressed.

Fishing activities at Deo dam take place in May every year, when the rice crop is ripe, the commune announces the release of the dam. This is the first time in decades, people have to wait for two years to catch fish because of the epidemic. “Therefore, the fish in the dam are bigger. Especially the catfish, many weigh up to 6 kg, while the carp and carp drift about 2 kg each”, Ms. Lam said.

According to regulations, each household wants to contribute 10 kg of rice, then convert it to money to buy fingerlings to drop into the dam. Raising fish naturally, without feeding, the village also appoints a fisherman to protect the aquarium. When all fish are caught, the dam will be closed, people wait for the water to rise, then buy fingerlings to drop, to catch next year.

Mr. Quach Cong Vinh, Secretary of the Party Committee of Yen Phu commune, said that fish farming and sharing activities in Cat hamlet take place every year, dating back to several decades, when there were ponds and dams. “This is a special culture, clearly showing solidarity and community attachment. The people of the people are all happy and don’t calculate the loss. Especially, the common fish farming makes households improve. responsibility to protect the dam. After the autumn crop, the people of Cat village prepare to collect rice and buy new fingerlings. “This time next year, my neighbor will be like a festival. Besides the holidays, this is an opportunity for relatives to gather, and children from far away have the opportunity to return to their homeland”, Ms. Lam added.
