The COVID-19 pandemic makes children less active

Research by the University of Bristol, UK shows that, in the age group of 10 to 11, children were active for an average of 56 minutes a day between April and December 2021, down 13%, compared to before the pandemic.

In addition, research also shows that children sit for 25 minutes more per day than before the pandemic.

Surprisingly, children’s physical activity levels did not recover even after the lockdowns were lifted.

Research has highlighted the need for families, schools and communities to work together with children to maximize opportunities for physical activity for children in the context of societies gradually overcoming the pandemic. .
